Use

Indole has a strong odor reminiscent of very bad breath, some aspects of poop and certain chemicals. The smell is very strong, so making a dilution of, for example, 10% or even 1% can be useful. DPG and TEC are suitable solvents for such a solution, but italso dissolves in alcohol. Typical use is in floral accords, especially jasmine, daffodil and lilac. You usually use less than 0,1% of this substance in the fragrance composition. It adds a floral scent in that very low dose and it enhances the radiation of the scent, even in that very low dose. In perfumes it is mainly a base note. Although it can be used in soap and candles, there is a high risk of discolouration

Store in a cool, dry, dark place and out of the reach of children.

Properties

Indole is an almost white powder at room temperature, which changes colour to yellow, orange-red due to aging and certainly due to exposure to light. The shelf life is quite long when stored properly. It occurs in nature in various plants, is is found in the absolutes of jasmine, daffodil, orange blossom and champaca, among others. The synthetic version is used for use as a fragrance.
