Aldehyde C10 10% in DPG is a solution of aldehyde C10, for use as fragrance material in, for example, perfume, cosmetics and air fresheners.

Use

Aldehyde C10 10% in DPG has a fresh pungent smell, a characteristic aldehyde smell: ozone, electric. The scent is still strong and can easily become overpowering. Making a further dilution of eg 1% in DPG may therefore be useful. Typical use is in aldehydic perfumes such as Chanel No 5. You usually use between a trace and 1% of this substance in the fragrance composition. It combines well with other aldehydes, with citrus and with certain floral scents such as rose and lily of the valley. It adds a fresh accent.

It is sometimes seen as a top note, sometimes as a base note. As a top note, because it usually dominates in the top of a perfume, as a base note because it evaporates quite slowly and can therefore often be perceived well in the dry out of a perfume. As a rule, the use of aldehydes in soap is not recommended, but it is possible, provided the dosage is high enough. Then rather use the undiluted aldehyde.

Properties

The substance is a colourless to pale yellow liquid at room temperature. It has a limited shelf life, although older stock can still smell quite good, the smell will diminish over time. It is recommended to replace this at least once a year. The substance occurs in nature in small quantities in a variety of things, but for use as a fragrance, the synthetic version is used. Another name for aldehyde C10 is decanal.

Packaging

The 10 and 50 ml packaging is made of brown glass with a black cap. The 250 g package is made of aluminium with a white cap.

Aldehyde C10 10% in DPG is classified as a hazardous substance, with the following characteristics:
