Description

Hedione (Fir) is a fragrance for use in perfume, cosmetics, soap, candles and air fresheners.

Use

Hedione (Fir) has a light green floral fragrance that reminds of jasmine. The scent is not very strong, undiluted use is common. However, this substance is not used for the smell impression but for the other property it has. It enhances the impact and diffusion of virtually any perfume in which it is used, and has a harmonising effect on many compositions. You usually use between 1% and 30% of this substance in the fragrance composition. It combines well with almost all floral fragrances, but especially with jasmine, lilac, magnolia and other white flowers. The booster effect usually occurs after some maturation. In perfumes, it is mainly a heart note, but the harmonising booster effect goes through the whole fragrance pyramid. It is stable in most products, including soap, but the effect is strongest at a neutral pH. Keep cool, dry, dark and out of reach of children.

Properties

Hedione (Fir) is a colourless to pale yellow clear liquid at room temperature. The purity is at least 96% and the substance has a relatively long shelf life. The substance is virtually absent in nature, for use as fragrance the synthetic version is used. The manufacturer is the Swiss company Firmenich. Other suppliers often sell the molecule under the generic name methyldihydrojasmonate. We are occasionally asked whether the product is real, good or diluted. It is one of the most important and widely used fragrance materials there is and the expectation is apparently that it has a strong, intense smell. However, the pure fragrance does not have that. It only acquires its value for the perfumer through use. The substance is genuine and from Firmenich, is good on delivery (and can be kept for quite a long time) and is not diluted.

Packaging

The 10 and 50 ml packaging is of brown glass with a black cap. The 250 g and 1 kg packs are made of aluminium with a stopper and a white cap. The 5 kg pack is a jerry can of plastic (HDPE) with a black cap.

Safety

Hedione (Fir) is not classified as a dangerous substance (REACH/CLP). Nevertheless, we recommend to handle all raw materials with care: keep out of reach of children.
