Description

EO Guaiac wood is an essential oil used in perfumes and air fresheners, etc.

This product is unfortunately not available for a longer time. More information about this can be found here

Usage

Guaiac wood essential oil is not widely used. It is an interesting base note with aspects of vanilla, wood and tar. Used in small quantities, it is very suitable for a rose scent, especially if it also contains vetiver, but it also fits well in a violet perfume and is an excellent fixer in most perfumes. It is usually stable in soap. The oil is usually solid at room temperature and must then be heated (au-bain-marie) before use.

Properties

The oil is usually solid at room temperature and melts at about 45 °C. Strangely enough, it happens that the contents of a single bottle are syrupy liquid instead of solid, which can then be used without heating.

Guaiac wood essential oil is, as the name implies, made from guaiac wood; the wood of Bulnesia sarmientoi, also known as guajac, gayak, lignum vitae, palo santo or pokhout. Some of these names are also used for very different trees. The oil is made by means of steam distillation of wood from trees from South and Central America.

Indication of the composition:
> 25% - Bulnesol, Guaiol
2-5% - Eudesmol
1-2% - Elemol

Guaiac wood is widely used for making figurines and other objects. In addition, the oil was often used in the past as a base material for other substances. As a result, the tree has become scarce and must be protected. The essential oil also falls under CITES appendix II. For this reason, we cannot rule out the possibility that the oil is not always available.

Nothing has been added to the oil; it is 100% pure essential oil.

Danger

Until recently, guaiac wood oil was classified as not dangerous. The product has since been better researched and is now classified as a hazardous substance, with the following characteristics:

WARNING
H315 - Causes skin irritation.
H317 - May cause an allergic skin reaction.
H411 ??- Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
