Use

Essential oil Bay Saint Thomas leaf has a spicy scent with aspects of wood and citrus. It goes well with other spice scents, but also with citrus. It adds a touch of natural freshness to spice and a spicy background to citrus. You usually use between 0,1% and 3% of this substance in the fragrance composition. It is mainly a top note in perfumes. It can be used in soap, but you will lose some of the scent.

Classic is use in aftershave, light perfumes and hair care products for men. Of course there is no reason to keep it that way, it is a scent that many people appreciate.

The so-called Bay Rum, similar to eau de cologne in use, was originally made by infusing leaves from the Bay Saint Thomas tree in rum. Later the essential oil was mixed with the rum and the rum was increasingly replaced by alcohol.

Store cool, dry and dark.

Properties

Bay Saint Thomas leaf essential oil is a pale yellow to brown liquid at room temperature. The substance is sensitive to light and oxygen, so it has a limited shelf life. The oil is made by steam distillation from the leaves of the West Indian laurel, AKA Bay Saint Thomas or Pimenta racemosa (Mill.) J.W.Moore. In addition to this botanical name, Pimenta acris is used. Note: essential oil of the common laurel is sometimes sold as Bay oil, but has a different scent and origin. Like any essential oil, this one is also a mixture of various substances. An indication of the composition is the following:
> 25% - Eugenol, Myrcene
10-25% - para Allylphenol
2-5% - Limonene, Linalool

For all raw materials, but certainly the more natural ones, the scent, colour and other properties can vary within a certain bandwidth from batch to batch and over time.
