Use

Bergamot FCR essential oil combines the scent of citrus, flowers and green herbs. A scent that is not particularly strong and therefore does not need to be diluted before mixing. It is an almost universal fragrance that goes with almost everything. In combination with Ho-wood oil, linalool or, when people did not yet care about sustainability: rosewood oil, it gives a classic top note that was popular for decades. In the 90s, the combination of bergamot and lemon was widely used. This same combination, but with a little bit of orange blossom, is the basis of the classic Eau de Cologne. Fougère perfumes also normally contain bergamot oil. You usually use between 0,1% and 30% of this substance in the fragrance composition. It is mainly a top note in perfumes. For a citrus oil, the stability is not bad, it can be used in good soap. In cold process soap and other very aggressive types of soap, the scent can be disappointing.

Store in a cool, dry and dark place.

Properties

Essential oil Bergamot FCR is a colourless to yellow-green liquid at room temperature. The substance has a limited shelf life, we recommend replacing it annually. The oil is made by pressing from the peel of the bergamot orange. The oil is then post-processed by steam distillation, whereby the proportion of highly allergenic furocoumarins such as bergapten is greatly reduced. Hence the addition of FCR to the name, which means FuroCoumarin Reduced. This citrus fruit of the Citrus bergamia Risso is mainly grown in southern Italy. When growing the bergamot fruits for this oil, no artificial fertilizers were used and no or minimal use of pesticides. Some plants have a scent similar to the bergamot orange, such as bergamot herb (Monarda fistulosa L.), but this is a completely different type of plant and the essential oil of this plant is also different in composition.

This product is very sensitive to oxidation, for that reason 0,1% antioxidant (tocopherol) has been added. Otherwise the oil is pure, apart from the antioxidant nothing has been added to the essential oil.

Like any essential oil, bergamot oil is also a mixture of various substances. An indication of the composition is the following:

> 25% - Limonene, Linalyl Acetate
5-10% - Linalool, beta Pinene, gamma Terpinene
2-5% - Caryophyllene, delta-3-carene
1-2% - 1,8-Cineol, Limonene

For all raw materials, but certainly the more natural ones, the smell, colour and other properties can vary within a certain bandwidth from batch to batch and over time.
