Not intended for use in food, vape liquids or other internal use.
Intended to be mixed with other fragrances: on its own, the scent can be boring or even unpleasant.
Do not use undiluted on the skin: it is a raw material, not a final product.
Use
Habanolide (Fir) is a musk fragrance. The scent is quite strong, so making a dilution of, for example, 10% can be useful. Typical use is in musk accords, for example with ethylene brassylate and zenolide. You usually use between 0,2% and 10% of this substance in the fragrance composition. It combines well with other musk scents, and can be used anywhere you want a musk scent. It is mainly a base note in perfumes and is stable in most products, including soap.
Store in a cool, dry, dark place and out of reach of children.
Properties
Habanolide (Fir) is a colourless to yellow, clear liquid at room temperature. The substance has a fairly long shelf life and does not occur in nature. The manufacturer is DSM-Firmenich.
In 2024, a new Habanolide factory was completed in the south of France. At the end of 2025, there was so much Habanolide available again that we could replace the replacement product Habanolide Subst (Fir) with pure Habanolide. The substitute contained other substances besides Habanolide (25%) and was made by Firmenich to resemble Habanolide as closely as they could.
Many people are anosmic to one or more musk fragrances (i.e. cannot smell them), so musk fragrances are usually combined with each other to ensure that everyone smells at least some musk.
Packaging
The 10 and 50 ml packaging is made of brown glass with a black cap. The 250 g and 1 kg packaging is made of aluminium with a white cap.
Hazards
Habanolide (Fir) is classified as a hazardous substance, with the following characteristics:
