Guaiyl acetate is a fragrance molecule used in products such as perfumes, cosmetics, and air fresheners.

Use

Guaiyl acetate has a sweet, spicy, and woody scent with a rosey note. The scent is not particularly strong; undiluted use is common. Its typical use is in sweet woody accords and rose fragrances. Typically, between 0,1% and 10% of this substance is used in fragrance compositions. It blends well with other woody scents, especially vetiver and sandalwood, but certainly also with ambers. It adds a spicy warmth to the fragrance. In perfumes, it's primarily a base note; it's relatively stable in many products.

Store in a cool, dry, dark place, and out of reach of children.

Properties

Guaiyl acetate is a colourless to pale yellow liquid at room temperature. The substance has a relatively long shelf life. It is made from guaiac wood oil and acetic acid, much the same way vetiveryl acetate is made from vetiver oil. For some reason, the oil itself is almost unavailable on the market, but the acetate is. In the absence of the oil, the acetate is the best possible substitute.

The name guaiac is used for several species of trees that share certain properties. In this case, it concerns Bulnesia sarmientoi Lorentz ex Griseb., not Guaiacum sp.

This fragrance won't be appreciated by everyone, especially in its pure form and without other fragrances. It's also possible that it works one time and not another, one batch works and another doesn't.

Packaging

The 10 and 50 ml packages are made of brown glass with a black cap. The 250 g package is made of aluminium with a white cap. They are always sealed with standard caps; for dispensing small quantities, we recommend using plastic pipettes.

Sustainability

This fragrance is made from renewable resources. The main raw material comes from an endangered tree species, which is protected by law. Its environmental biodegradability is poor.
