Attention!

Before purchasing, read all information below and the general product information.
Not intended for use in food, vape liquids, or other internal use.
Intended for mixing with other fragrances: on its own, the scent can be dull or even unpleasant.
Do not use undiluted on the skin: it is a raw material, not a finished product.

Use

Clearwood has a spicy woody scent with green and earthy aspects that is strongly reminiscent of patchouli. The scent is medium in strength; dilution before use does not seem useful. It blends well with other spicy woody scents and is suitable for any application where patchouli oil would be used. fragrances, but also floral scents. Because it is colorless, it works well in white candles or white soap, for example. It primarily serves as a base note in perfumes and is stable in most products, including soap. Store in a cool, dry, dark place, and out of reach of children.

Dilution is possible: Clearwood mixes well with alcohol (96%), DPG, and IPM. Creating a stable 20% solution with all these substances is no problem.

Properties

Clearwood is a clear, colourless liquid at room temperature with a fairly long shelf life. The substance is produced using "white biotechnology," which uses living plant cells or plant enzymes to transfer chemical processes that normally occur in a plant to the production facility. For this reason, Clearwood can be considered a special type of patchouli oil. The advantage of this method is a product that is not affected by weather, politics, or speculative trading. The price is reasonable because, apart from an expensive production facility, the process only uses sugar. Therefore, it requires less agricultural land and water. The fragrance quality is more predictable, as the oil is colorless. Naturally, this also makes the product less exciting than natural patchouli oil. Firmenich, the manufacturer, understands this and clearly states that they view Clearwood as a new product alongside, and not as a replacement for, patchouli oil. We wholeheartedly agree with this view.

Packaging

The 10 and 50 ml containers are made of brown glass with a child-resistant black cap. The 250 g and 1 kg containers are made of aluminium with a white cap.

The 250 g container is not supplied to private individuals. This is because we were unable to find suitable packaging with a child-resistant cap. The latter is mandatory for this product when supplied to private individuals.

The container is always sealed with standard caps; for dispensing small amounts, we recommend using plastic pipettes.

Sustainability

This is an interesting substance when it comes to determining sustainability. It is made from plant-based raw materials, which are abundantly available. We know little about energy consumption, but water consumption is likely less than that of patchouli oil, for example. Its biodegradability is just as poor as that of patchouli oil. However, it is a patented product; only Firmenich can produce it. Patchouli oil is often a byproduct of palm oil plantations; in the shade of the trees, there is plenty of room for patchouli, an herb that grows relatively easily and quickly. All in all, it appears to be no better or worse than patchouli oil and scores fairly well on sustainability compared to many other fragrances.
