Ammonium iron (III) citrate (green) is a substance for educational use, for example: making blueprints.
Use
Ammonium iron (III) citrate (green) is almost exclusively used by our customers for blueprint or cyanotype. For blueprinting, make a solution of this substance in water, for example, 10 to 25%. This solution is not photosensitive, only after mixing with Potassium ferricyanide (red) a photosensitive mixture is formed. The solution can get moldy, for this reason we recommend working hygienically and preparing the solution fresh.
Properties
Ammonium iron (III) citrate (green) is a green, fine powder with an iron content of about 15%. The purity is not specified, but this grade is in general suitable for cyanotype. Please note: differences between batches make it hard or impossible to reproduce results from the past. Also the amount of blue pigment formed after mixing, before light exposure, can be different from batch to batch.
The substance is known by many other names, such as Ferric ammonium citrate, Ammonium iron(III) citrate, Ammonium ferric citrate, Iron ammonium citrate and FerriSeltz.
Packaging
We supply this in square, transparent plastic (HDPE) pots with a red or blue plastic cap. The jars are not completely filled, it contains the amount indicated on the label.
Hazards
The substance is not classified as dangerous under REACH / CLP legislation. We nevertheless recommend that you handle all substances safely and keep them out of the reach of children.
