Polysorbate 80

Description

Polysorbate 80 is an emulsifier for use in cosmetics.

Use

Polysorbate 80 is a solubiliser, use it to emulsify water-immiscible substances, such as fragrances, in water.

Mix this emulsifier with the fragrances or active ingredients to be emulsified in a ratio of approximately 4-6 parts of emulsifier to 1 part of substance to be emulsified. This mixture is then miscible with water in any proportion. Exactly how much emulsifier is needed differs per substance to be emulsified and must be found by trial and error, in some cases it can also be more than 6 parts.

There is no maximum dosage, use as much as needed.

It can be used as an emulsifier in creams, lotions and the like, but this is not common. Where appropriate: follow the formulation you use.

Store cool, dry and dark in tightly closed packaging. Keep out of reach of children.

De Hekserij does not sell products intended for use in food or for other internal use, see also our general product information.

Properties

Polysorbate 80 is a colourless to light yellow viscous liquid at room temperature, the substance has a fairly long shelf life. Polysorbate 80 can make certain preservatives, such as parabens, less effective, we indicate this as well as possible in the description of our preservatives.

Occasionally, a black powdery or stringy precipitate forms at the bottom of a package. This is normal and no problem, possibly stir well before use.

Sustainability

Polysorbate 80 is largely made from renewable plant materials and partly from fossil fuels. It is degradable in the environment.

Packaging

This substance is packed in brown plastic (PET) bottles, the 5 kg packaging is a transparent plastic (HDPE) jerry can. Closures are made of black plastic (PP).
