Description

Betaine (CAPB) Hx is a surfactant, a cleaning agent for use in, for example, shampoo, shower gel and similar products.

Use

Betaine (CAPB) Hx can be used on its own, but also together with other surfactants. It is very simple in use: mix with the other ingredients of the formula and it is ready. No heating is required. If there are substances that mix poorly with water in the formula (such as preservatives, perfume), it may be useful to first mix them with the surfactants and only then add the water.

Properties

Betaine (CAPB) Hx is a pale yellow to yellow viscous liquid at room temperature. The detergent concentration is about 30%. It contains 0.5% sodium benzoate as a preservative. It has a long shelf life: store it cool, dry, dark and keep it in the tightly closed container.

It is often used in combination with Detergent (SLES) Hx, because it can reduce the irritant properties of Detergent (SLES) Hx. Because Betaine (CAPB) Hx contains around 5 percent sodium chloride (table salt), the mixture of Betaine and Detergent also thickens. Usually (much) less Betaine (CAPB) Hx than Detergent (SLES) Hx is used.

The pH of Betaine (CAPB) Hx is between 4,5 and 6,0 but it can be used in a wider pH range: 4-10. Usually, it is therefore not necessary to adjust the pH of the shower gel, unless this is necessary for other reasons, for example because of preservation.

In recipes and cosmetics, you will also find the names Betain HT, Betaine HT, Cocamidopropyl Betain, Cocamidopropylbetain and Cocoamidopropylbetain. They are usually the same substance and in all these cases you can use Betaine (CAPB) Hx. Because there is also a completely different substance called betaine, we used the suffix CAPB (CocoAmidoPropylBetaine).

Sustainability

Betaine (CAPB) Hx consists of 70% water, 20% vegetable-based substances and 10% synthetic substances. It does not contain any animal substances. It is fairly readily biodegradable.

Packaging

The 100, 250 and 1000 ml containers are made of plastic (PET) with a black plastic (PP) cap. The larger packages (starting at 5 liters) are made of plastic (HDPE) with a black plastic (PP) cap. You can order a Jerrycan key DIN 51 to open the 5 liter container. The key is not suitable for larger packages.

Betaine (CAPB) Hx is classified as a hazardous substance under REACH / CLP with the following warnings:
