HexaCon 91

Description

HexaCon 91 is a cosmetic preservative.

Use

Cosmetics must be preserved in many cases so that they do not spoil. This product can help achieve this.

For those who can not test the effectiveness of the preservative we do recommend to use the maximum dosage: about 1%. For those with access to a suitable lab the recomendations are:

  • Foaming cleansers such as shampoo, shower gel and the like: use 0,8-1,0 grams of preservative per 100 grams of shampoo. Mix HexaCon 91 with the surfactant and only then add the water.
  • Emulsions such as creams: use 0,6-1,0 grams of HexaCon 91 per 100 grams of cream. Mix preservative with the water phase. It does not necessarily dissolve well, so stir just before adding the water phase.
  • Gels, for example hair gel, and other products with gum-like thickeners: use 0,6-1,0 grams of preservative per 100 grams of gel. If you use a product such as glycerin or propylene glycol: mix the HexaCon 91 with it before adding the water.
  • Aqueous products, such as rose water: use 0,6-1,0 grams of preservative per 100 grams of finished product. Use as much until it no longer mixes with the product.

It is not a suitable product for products that do not contain water, for example most make-up products. The pH of the product may be between 3 to 10, the maximum temperature during preparation may not exceed 120 °C. The legal maximum concentration is 1,1%.

Properties

HexaCon 91 is liquid, clear, colourless and has a light rose scent. It consists of 9 parts of phenoxyethanol and 1 part of ethyl hexyl glycerin. Together they protect against yeasts, fungi and bacteria.

Because phenoxyethanol is volatile, it also protects against the growth of microorganisms in the empty space at the top of the package.

Packaging

The 10 and 50 ml containers are made of brown glass with a black child resistant cap. The 250 g and 1 kg packaging are made of aluminium with a stopper and white cap. We recommend to order a few droppers to make dosing of the liquid easier.
