Description

Lyral (IFF) is an aromachemical for use in air fresheners, for example, but not in cosmetics.

Attention!

Please read all information below and the general product information before purchasing.
Not intended for use in cosmetics, food, vape liquids or (other) internal use.
Intended to be mixed with other fragrances: on its own the scent can be dull or even unpleasant.

Use

Lyral (IFF) has a floral scent reminiscent of lily of the valley, cyclamen and lilac. The smell is not particularly strong, undiluted use is common. Just like Hedione, for example, it is not so much the scent that made this a popular fragrance material, but its other properties. It makes the fragrance composition more carrying and more powerful. Moreover, the scent lasts longer. You usually use between 0,1% and 20% of this substance in the fragrance composition. It combines well with floral scents, but also with sweet spices. It may not be used in cosmetics, only in products without or with very limited skin contact, such as air fresheners.

Store in a cool, dry, dark place and out of the reach of children.

Properties

Lyral is a colourless to pale yellow liquid at room temperature. The purity is at least 98% and the substance has a reasonably long shelf life. It hardly occurs in nature, it is made synthetically. This is largely based on vegetable raw materials. The manufacturer is the American IFF.

Lyral was very widely used in cosmetics. Due to current insights regarding safety, we recommend that you no longer use this product in cosmetics, but that you look for an alternative. Examples of fragrance materials that can partly replace Lyral are Lilyflore (Fir), Mayol (Fir), Bougeonal (Giv) and Florhydral (Giv).

The use of Lyral in cosmetics has been prohibited since August 23, 2021, and in the previous period it was not allowed to be used in new cosmetic products. For the time being, we will continue to sell this product because:
  • these insights are not necessarily valid for other applications such as air fresheners
  • knowledge of the properties and use of this substance is important for the current generation of perfumers
We will of course keep an eye on this, we take into account that delivery to consumers will no longer be permitted at a certain point, so we may still remove this product from the range.
