Hexyl cinnamal is an aromachemical for use in, for example, perfume, cosmetics and soap.

Use

Hexyl cinnamal has the warm spicy - floral scent of flowers like jasmine and gardenia. In addition, it has green spicy aspects. The fragrance is not very strong and can therefore be used undiluted. Typical use is in floral scents such as jasmine, magnolia and the like. You usually use between 2% and 30% of this substance in the fragrance composition. A very versatile material: in addition to the floral scents mentioned, it also goes well with many fruit scents (especially berries and tropical fruits), in ambers, chypres and fougères. It is easy to underestimate this material, the value of this fragrance is only found after combining it with other fragrances. It is primarily a base note in perfumes and is stable in most products, including soap.

Properties

Hexyl cinnamal is a pale yellow to yellow liquid at room temperature. A better name might be alpha Hexyl cinnamal, but since other variants are not used as fragrance, we leave that alpha out. The purity is at least 96%. The substance has a short shelf life, because it is prone to oxidation by oxygen from the air. For that reason we add 0,1% tocopherol. Nevertheless we recommend to replace this material at least once a year. The substance occurs in nature, but the synthetic version is used for use in fragrance.

Packaging

The 10 and 50 ml packaging is made of brown glass with a black cap. The 250 g package is made of aluminium with a white cap.

Hexyl cinnamal is classified as a hazardous substance, with the following characteristics:

Hexyl cinnamal is one of the 26 perfume allergens that (as hexyl cinnamal) must be listed on cosmetic packaging if the concentration exceeds a certain value.
